The Department of International relations and Diplomacy gives primarily the instruction of subjects that form a substantial part of specialization on the Interantional relations and European studies study programmes. In relation to the pedagogic and scientific-reserch orientation, the department guarantees the instruction of study programmes such as International relations at the bachelor, master and doctorate study level, European studies at the master level. What is more, the international relations study programme is realised in the
English language at the master study level, and also the francophone studies are here partially realised in the close cooperation with the Faculty of Political and Law Science of the Champagne-Ardenne University Champagne-Ardenne in Reims.

Within the pedagogic acitivities, the department gives instruction of fundamental subjects focused on the development of knowledge of particular aspects, factors, structures and mechanisms of international relations functioning and the formation of international politics, including also the European integration process. The department also cooperates with external specialists and experts. As the most intensive element in this sphere is the cooperation with the Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Ministry - the staff of which directly participate in the instruction of specialised academic subjects.

The activity of department in the domain of scientific-research is focused on the development of scientific-research cooperation with home and foreign universities and research centers, and it is also focused on the research actitivity realised on the basis of participation in the research and instruction projects financed from various grant schemes, as well as well as on the presentation of the results of scientific outcomes by means of holding international scientific conferences, publishing volumes of scientific papers, team scientific monographs, scientific and reasearch studies, information on presentation on scientific activities, etc. Scientific papers of many members of the department have been successfully published in the prestigious foreign publishing centers.

Based on the intensive cooperation with various types of home and foreign institutions, bodies and organisations, the department is in charge of students´placements at these institutions within the study programmes of International relations and European studies. The students are provided with the possibility to be sent out on placement in state administration and local self-administration bodies, the Representation of the European Commission in Slovakia, the European Parliament, and specialised UN agencies, Slovak embassies abroad, etc. The main goal of the department in this sphere is a close interconnection of theoretical knowledge with practical experience, which is considered to be a vital element in the formation students´ expert profile.
